Clinton-Kalamazoo Canal. Construction began 1838. This canal was designed to link Lake Saint Clair on Lake St. Clair on the east side of Michigan to Lake Michigan on the west side but only a few miles were constructed. The completed part of this canal ran through Rochester and Rochester Hills in Oakland County and through Shelby Township and Utica in Macomb County.
